Who says you can’t ice skate in the South? Not Atlantans. No matter whether you skate like a member of Team USA or you are a teeny bit unstable standing on top of two steel blades, you can add to your holiday cheer by grabbing the kids or your besties and gliding around one of these top Atlanta skating rinks.
In-Town Skating
- The St. Regis Atlanta. The Astor Holiday Ice Rink opens Nov. 24 and closes Jan. 5, 2018. You’ll skate inside a billowing tent under white lights. Après skating, sip hot chocolate and munch s’mores or, if you worked up a big appetite, order from a full menu. $30 per hour for adults; $18 for kids.
- Ponce City Market. Skate the Sky on the Rooftop Terrace, starting Nov. 20 and continuing through Feb. 14, 2018, as the city lights twinkle below. Fifty minutes of skating costs $15 (plus admission to The Roof). Hot toddies and other food items are available. And, you can rent Skate the Sky for a daytime private party.
- Park Tavern. Stay cozy as you skate inside the heated (or air conditioned, depending on the weather) and covered Rink at Park Tavern. Add to your skating pleasure with rink-side dining. Skating begins Nov. 23 and closes Feb. 19, 2018. The rink offers all-day skate sessions, themed children’s birthday parties, “Skate After 8” for ages 16 and up, and a number of special events. Prices range from $15 to $20 for an all-day skate on non-peak season days. The Rink at Park Tavern is also available for private skating lessons, parties and even marriage proposals.
- Atlantic Station. Skate the Station opens Nov. 18 and runs through mid-February 2018. In addition to the main rink, there will be a smaller space that can be rented for special events. Throughout the season, look for theme dates such as Disco Skate and ‘80s Skate.
Metro Area Skating
- The Battery Atlanta. Open through Jan. 14, 2018, the rink welcomes families to pose for pictures with Santa most weekends. Also on weekends and select dates, SunTrust Park will open its doors for children to enjoy Hope and Will’s Sandlot where they can take part in carnival games, a batting cage, zip lines, a climbing wall and much more. Located in The Battery Atlanta plaza, the Winter Wonderland Party Zone will offer holiday music, performances from The Atlanta Braves Heavy Hitters, visits from The Home Depot Tools and holiday craft stations. Admission, which varies based on date, begins at $13 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger.
- Olde Town Conyers Pavilion is the rink to seek for indoor/outdoor ice skating. It opens Nov. 11 and runs through Feb. 25, 2018. Unlike some area rinks, this one uses real ice and offers two-hour sessions instead of the usual one-hour. Admission is $10, and the rink is available for private parties. Parking is free.
- Avalon. Avalon on Ice, the Rockefeller-inspired ice skating rink, returns Nov. 19 and stays open through Jan. 21, 2018. Costs are $18 for adults and $14 for kids 9 and younger. Private lessons are available, as is Sunday morning Skate School. The rink is available for private parties.
- Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee. The 6,000-square-foot Ice Rink in The Forest is open through Jan. 8, 2018. Exercise and fun are topped off with hot cocoa or hot apple cider. Ice Skating is complimentary for all hotel guests within the Resort Fee.
